Stress and a New Job

A promotion may be great to have but often feelings of stress accompany advancement. To stay stress-free after a promotion, Gerard Hargreaves, author of Stress Management, advises the following:

  • Be sure you have a clear job description.

  • Clarify goals and objectives with your new boss.

  • Take steps to acquire or perfect the skills you will need in your new job.

  • Avoid taking on too many other responsibilities at the same time, both inside and outside the work environment. Hold off the position of chairmanship of your local sports club and avoid helping out the holder of your old position if you possibly can.

  • Put aside free time for yourself to spend with family and friends.

  • Have quiet time for yourself.
